I think it's also mainly because people think, if we respect and make this person like us, then we have the opportunity to either get money from them or make money with them. And so we try to surround ourselves with them.
Also, most importantly why we like expensive and branded items (for the boys) is because we like to impress the girls. Unless you aren't into girls, in that case I have no experience on how that dynamic works, so I'm not going to comment on it.
